A Batman Mask is a Popular Face Painting for Kids

Batman face painting -- bat mask

Well, the last face painting example we did here was The Joker from Batman, so I thought today we should have Batman himself. He is a popular superhero especially with little boys.

Different face painters have done variations on the Batman design, and you can play around with this one too. Start with the basic bat face paint and add any color or details that you or the child would like.

In terms of color and technique it is a simple face painting, but if you want to create this one for a client or in a busy venue it makes sense to practise painting the outline of the bat shape first.

I’ve given you a couple of options to begin with. If you are creating the bat as part of a scene, as in the video further down, applying the black paint close to the eyes will make the illusion more effective. But with younger kids it is sometimes best to leave an unpainted area around their eyes. This works well with the Batman design as it will look as though the painting itself is a mask — and since Batman also wears a mask that is OK with his young fans.

The Joker — Creepy Clown Face Paint

The Joker creepy clown face from Batman

A lot of people are creeped out by clowns. I think we can (at least in part) blame Stephen King for that. And Batman, of course.

Jack Nicholson took the creepy clown comic-book figure of The Joker and brought him to life on our screens. More recently, Heath Ledger came along and gave us a new, even creepier reinterpretation of The Joker, before his own young life was cut short.

But the green-haired maniac with the creepy clown face is immortal. Many of us grew up with the comics or the first Batman movies, and kids now can almost all recognize The Joker, even those too young to watch the latest movie.

No wonder The Joker is a popular face painting design for all ages. Heath Ledger made this creepy villain a look that teens and tweens want to be seen with. And it is a look that never gets tired for adults, especially since Ledger’s makeup brought a new edge to it. Men who would normally shy away from face paint are going to look fantastic as The Joker. Of course, as the paint is anything but subtle and disguises your own features, a woman can wear the look just as well as a man.

Be King of the Jungle with Lion Face Paint

lion face paint example

Lion face paint is fun for all ages and is a jungle cat face painting design that will come in handy not just for Halloween costumes but also for stage productions of The Wizard of Oz or The Lion King.

Whether you need to paint a Simba or Nala, a Cowardly Lion, or just have a kid who is big cat crazy (and you don’t want to paint those tiger stripes), this lion face paint is the perfect basis for the king of animals.

You can use this example to create either a male lion or a lioness, or a little lion cub. To suggest a full grown male lion you will need to add a wig, hood or hairpiece to suggest a mane (unless you have big hair!).

This example is fine just as it is for a lioness or lion cub. You could always add a pair of cute cub ears on a hairband.

Pierrot is an Easy Clown Face Paint Design

Pierrot easy clown face paint design

Even if you think you don’t have an artistic bone in your body, give this Pierrot Clown face painting design a try. If you keep it basic, it doesn’t get much easier than this!

Clown face paint is popular with kids all year round. Of course, since circus clowns are usually played by adults, you can wear this face painting design at any age. It is a fun way to play with the paints without worrying too much about creating a perfect result.

One of the easiest clown faces of all is a Pierrot. This is the clown who wears a floppy white suit and is often shown crying. Pierrot is a traditional character from Italian theatrical productions of previous centuries who has remained popular today. He is a male clown but during the last century was frequently also painted as a female clown. So it is fine for either males or females to be a Pierrot.

If you don’t have a face paint kit you can easily and cheaply buy the paints for the Pierrot clown featured here. You only need white, black, and your choice of red or pink for any detail you wish to add.

How to be a Cute Dead Zombie Girl

Dead Zombie Girl

OK, so here’s a dilemma girls of all ages can identify with. You want to be a zombie this Halloween (or you are going to a Zombie Prom) and need to look scary and, well, dead. But you still want to look cute! Is it possible to have a cute dead zombie girl look? Find out with this female zombie face painting example!

Although this one is aimed at girls and women, there is no reason why the guys (of all ages) can’t use this zombie face painting as the basis for a Halloween look either.

If you are male, or if you are painting this on a boy, you will probably want more gore. Go for it! Add some wounds and lots of fake blood. Wear less eye makeup and make the eyebrows bushy or leave them off. You can easily adapt this zombie face paint for a more masculine (and more horrible) result.

Tinkerbell or Green Fairy Face Painting – So Pretty!

Tinkerbell / Green Fairy Face Painting

This Tinkerbell / Green Fairy face painting design is such a pretty look. Since fairies are popular at Halloween as well as the rest of the year, it seemed as good a time as any to share it with you.

This face painting example is one that was shared on YouTube by a German-speaking face paint supplier. I noticed that although people loved this gorgeous fairy design, some were frustrated by the fact that the written prompts were only given in German. Here is my version of the design with the step-by-step face painting instructions in English. Credit for the painting itself is fully with Eulenspiegel and you will of course find their original video below. It is essential viewing to create this look.

The fairy face painting video is titled Tinka Bella — that’s the famous Peter Pan fairy Tinkerbell to you and me! The colors of this face paint do make it perfect for a Tinkerbell outfit and little girls will love it.

A Devil Face Painting Example for your Inner Demon

Devil Face Painting Example

Go on, be a devil! This demon is a fun face painting idea for Halloween or any time you want to let your wicked side out. After all, if you are going to reveal your naughty side what could be more perfect than devil face makeup and of course a costume to go with it (got your pitchfork at the ready?).

The devil face painting is a great excuse to be dramatic with your paints with the intense red and black combination. I can just imagine this one with some yellow Devil-themed contact lenses.

Another advantage of devil face paint is that it is suitable for all the family. In fact many adults love to dress up as devils and she-devils (and not only at Halloween!). You might turn some heads but there is nothing childish about devil faint paint on a grown up. As for kids, well, just try keeping them away from this one! Seems there’s an inner demon in us all…

Cat Face Paint is a Favorite Face Painting Design

Face Painting: Cat Design

Another popular face painting idea, a cat face is ideal for Halloween but also cute for kids all year round. Little girls love a kitty with some glitter and a touch of color. This versatile design can also be made more grown up be putting the emphasis on those gorgeous cat eyes and leaving off some of the other detail.

Today, though, I’m going to show you a cat face painting example that is perfect for children. This one is inspired by the designs of some of my favorite professional face painters and further down I’ll share a couple of links to their videos for you to see how they do it from start to finish.

A cat face paint design can be whatever you want it to be. I’ve seen people who create beautiful and quite realistic looks in the style of the musical CATS, although these clearly take a lot of practice! Or you can become a cat simply by painting on a little cat nose and mouth, and by creating elongated eyes with an eyeliner.

Easy Dracula Face Paint Tutorial

Dracula face paint

Vampires are so popular right now… but there’s nothing new in that. Long before Twilight people were (and still are) fascinated by Count Dracula. The Dracula face paint is a little more dramatic than the teen vampires on our screens today, but it is a look that works wonderfully at Halloween when drama is exactly what is needed!

This Dracula face paint design has all the elements of the classic Count Dracula of the silver screen, with a widow’s peak ‘hairstyle’, arched eyebrows and menacing features.

The vampire face painting example below (and the alternative design in the video I’ve linked to) can be created with just 3 colors of face paint: black, white and red. If you have fake blood or want to make some as a fun Halloween activity, you could use this instead for the dribbling blood. And of course you can use a set of theatrical fangs instead of painting them on.
