Cat Face Paint is a Favorite Face Painting Design

Face Painting: Cat Design

Another popular face painting idea, a cat face is ideal for Halloween but also cute for kids all year round. Little girls love a kitty with some glitter and a touch of color. This versatile design can also be made more grown up be putting the emphasis on those gorgeous cat eyes and leaving off some of the other detail.

Today, though, I’m going to show you a cat face painting example that is perfect for children. This one is inspired by the designs of some of my favorite professional face painters and further down I’ll share a couple of links to their videos for you to see how they do it from start to finish.

A cat face paint design can be whatever you want it to be. I’ve seen people who create beautiful and quite realistic looks in the style of the musical CATS, although these clearly take a lot of practice! Or you can become a cat simply by painting on a little cat nose and mouth, and by creating elongated eyes with an eyeliner.

Easy Dracula Face Paint Tutorial

Dracula face paint

Vampires are so popular right now… but there’s nothing new in that. Long before Twilight people were (and still are) fascinated by Count Dracula. The Dracula face paint is a little more dramatic than the teen vampires on our screens today, but it is a look that works wonderfully at Halloween when drama is exactly what is needed!

This Dracula face paint design has all the elements of the classic Count Dracula of the silver screen, with a widow’s peak ‘hairstyle’, arched eyebrows and menacing features.

The vampire face painting example below (and the alternative design in the video I’ve linked to) can be created with just 3 colors of face paint: black, white and red. If you have fake blood or want to make some as a fun Halloween activity, you could use this instead for the dribbling blood. And of course you can use a set of theatrical fangs instead of painting them on.

Pumpkin Face Painting — The Cutest Halloween Face Paint!

Pumpkin face painting

Just my opinion, of course, but I think the Pumpkin gets the prize as one of the cutest Halloween face painting designs there is! A pumpkin costume is always fun but this really would give it the finishing touch and means that your little pumpkin won’t feel left out when he or she sees friends and siblings with painted faces.

This is an especially adorable face paint for small kids but if you are happy to be center of attention you can try it out on yourself too.

While we are on the subject of little ones, although face paints are non-toxic and safe for kids you might feel happier keeping a small area free of paint around the mouth and eyes. Of course, always use a reputable brand of face paint in any case. (There is a lady on YouTube who paints her own face with acrylic face paints — as she points out herself, this is NOT recommended!)

You do need a few colors of face paint to create the detail on this pumpkin. Glitter isn’t necessary but kids love it and it makes the finished face painting look more special. Red, orange or gold face glitter would work best. For my version of the design, the following (or equivalents) would be helpful:

Face Painting Kits for Halloween: Vampire, Witch or Wolf?

When it comes to face painting for Halloween, there are quite a lot of kits out there that will give you everything you need to create a certain face painting design.

Personally, I love the kits that come with lots of colors to let you create just about any face paint idea you can think of. I’ll be talking more about those in later posts. But if you are doing a one-off face painting design and don’t want to invest in a full palette of face paints, the smaller kits can be a great choice. They might be something as simple and inexpensive as a pack of 3 face paint crayons. However, they often come with applicators too, so you won’t need to buy these separately. Depending on which you choose, you might even get some extra accessories. All good kits will also have step-by-step face painting instructions.

OK, so let’s take a look at a few of these face painting kits for Halloween.

Vampire Face Painting Kit

This Vampire Face Painting Kit from Wolfe Brothers is perfect for traditional Dracula face paint, as you can see from that image. It comes with white face paint and applicator, plus 3 face painting crayons (red, blue, black) so you have everything you need to create a bloodthirsty vampire design. Like most good face paints, this one says it comes off with soap and water or with baby wipes, and is safe and non-toxic.

Witch Face Painting Kit

Also from Wolfe Brothers, this fun Witch Face Painting Kit will help you to create a wicked witch face paint design with a green face. Includes the main green face paint plus a darker green face paint crayon and also a white and black crayon. As you can see, the instructions will show you how to get a dramatic witch face with sweeping eyebrows and facial shading to give a wrinkled and scowling appearance… and even a missing tooth!

Skull Face Painting Kit

If you are looking for a more advanced design than the skeleton face painting example featured earlier, the Skull Face Painting Kit will give you step-by-step instructions to do so. This kit makes clever use of yellow as the base color for your skull face painting so that you can then use white face paint to really make the facial bones appear to pop out. Black and red face paint crayons also included. The finished result looks impressive, doesn’t it! Just goes to show how shading is everything.

Easy Witch Face Paint Step by Step

Witch Face Paint Image

I hope you enjoyed the Skull Face Paint tutorial the other day here on Face Paint Heaven. Another all-time favorite Halloween face painting design is of course the Wicked Witch.

There are many different options for a Halloween witch face painting design, all the way from the traditional green-faced, hag-like witch to a very glamorous and seductive witch. After all, witches have magical powers and in stories they often transformed themselves into captivating beauties to try to distract the hero. A glamorous witch is still a witch, though, and there is normally some tell-tale sign. A little too much make-up, or garish colors. A witch is never subtle. Later on, I’ll be looking at ways of creating this more grown-up and elegant wicked witch look.

For now, here’s a tutorial featuring an easy witch face paint idea that is perfect for kids. The traditional green face is eye-catching and screams “witch” so even if you are not yet sure of your face painting skills you can quickly transform a child (or yourself) into this recognizable Halloween character.

Easy Skeleton Face Painting Step by Step

Easy skeleton face painting

I bet you will see at least one skeleton going out and about in only their bones this Halloween! I’ve seen skeleton costumes for kids, adults, babies and even the dog!

Dogs and babies can get away with just a costume, but the rest of us look so much scarier with a skeleton face painting to finish the illusion. Otherwise the bony effect might look great but you will spoil it with your head (no offence!). And since you are looking for face painting examples, I’m pretty certain that you don’t want to wear a mask.

In any case, it doesn’t get much easier than skull face paint. You can create the skeleton face illusion with just 2 colors of face paint. That’s right, white and black.

If you are looking for face paints for kids, I always recommend Snazaroo. And no, they didn’t pay me to say that. However, their face paints receive great reviews from parents and are non-toxic and easy to wash off little faces, which seems like reason enough.
